Movie Nights Connect the Campus

With the new Huber Theater in the Student Center, watching movies is easier than ever. CAB is using this new resource to the fullest by giving students the opportunity to watch movies for free. I attended their showing of Maleficent to see what all the hype was about.

Maleficent, directed by Robert Stromberg, follows the traditional tale of Sleeping Beauty, but not from the princess’s point of view as most renditions of the story do. Instead it focuses on the villain Maleficent (Angelina Jolie), the evil fairy who cursed the princess when she was a baby.

As Maleficent progresses, she grows from a child to a hard-hearted adult, havingbeen hurt and betrayed by a man she loved, and then as she learns to love again.

Before the CAB event started, Incunabula hosted a trivia event comparing Maleficent, Disney’s Sleeping Beauty film, and the original Grimm’s Fairy Tale version of the tale. The theater was half filled up with people just for the Incunabula event and about ten minutes after that event ended, the theater had filled up completely. People bundled up in snuggies and blankets with snacks bought from the Cafe. It felt almost like we were at home instead of in a theater.

The mixture of the inviting atmosphere and movie made the evening quite enjoyable, and I am really looking forward to the next movie showing CAB hosts.
